Tony Wang10 min readDomino's Has More Open Jobs Than OpenAI: The Real Hiring Power Law
Domino's has 24,435 open jobs on one board — more than the entire Ashby ecosystem. 198 mega-boards dominate crawled hiring volume.
Ask who is hiring in 2026 and the reflex answer is still a tech company — OpenAI, a Series-B on Ashby, whoever trended on Twitter last week. Count the open requisitions on companies' own career boards instead, and the picture flips. Crawlora's Jobs dataset ranks every discovered board by how many roles it currently lists. At the top: Domino's Pizza, 24,435 open roles. OpenAI's board: 723. Domino's is not "slightly bigger." It is thirty-four times larger on this measure, and its one board is larger than every Ashby-powered company combined.
That is the hiring power law: a thin set of mega-boards carries the volume. The market people write about and the market that posts the most open reqs are barely the same market.
Domino's vs OpenAI vs the entire Ashby ecosystem
Three numbers tell the story before any table:
Domino's 24,435 · Ashby-everywhere 18,211 · OpenAI 723.
If you only read startup career pages, you are reading a boutique corner of posted demand. OpenAI is a real, high-profile employer — and on open-req volume it is a rounding error next to a single pizza franchise's hourly and store hiring. The same pattern holds for the rest of the high-growth stack on Ashby: Notion (141), Ramp (125), Perplexity (84), Cohere (139) are meaningful companies and small boards.
We first noted the Domino's-versus-Ashby line in our Workday volume study as evidence that startup ATSs are a thin slice of provider share. Here it is the lead finding about employers: the brands that dominate open-req volume are not the brands that dominate the discourse.
The power law: 198 mega-boards
Of 9,678 active career boards in the registry (17,064 discovered boards overall, including blocked, gone and empty), only 198 report 1,000 or more open roles. That is roughly 2% of active boards. Those 198 boards report about 431,000 open roles between them — the concentrated core of high-volume public hiring in this crawl.
Another 216 boards sit between 500 and 999 open roles (414 boards at ≥500). Below that, the long tail is thousands of companies with a few dozen reqs each — the shape of a power law, not a flat market.
Concentration at the very top is sharp: the ten largest boards alone report about 92,000 open roles. Add the next fifteen and the top twenty-five clear roughly 148,000. A job seeker or analyst who only watches the long tail of startup boards is not sampling "the market" — they are sampling a different distribution.
Who sits at the top
De-duplicated primary boards, ranked by open roles. Sectors are hand-labeled from the employer, not from ATS metadata:
| # | Company (board) | ATS | Open roles | Sector |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Domino's | SmartRecruiters | 24,435 | Food / franchise |
| 2 | CVS Health | Workday | 17,295 | Healthcare / retail |

| 5 | Albertsons | Oracle | 6,339 | Grocery |
| 6 | JCPenney | iCIMS | 6,186 | Retail |
| 7 | Accor | SmartRecruiters | 5,870 | Hospitality |

| 17 | Macy's | Oracle | 3,194 | Retail |
| 18 | Greene King | SmartRecruiters | 3,093 | Hospitality |

| 22 | BAYADA Home Health | Greenhouse | 2,599 | Home health |
| 23 | Pulse Healthcare | Greenhouse | 2,591 | Healthcare staffing |
| 24 | Anduril | Greenhouse | 2,160 | Defense tech |
| — | OpenAI (scale check) | Ashby | 723 | AI / tech |
Read the sector column top to bottom. Food service, pharmacy retail, French grocery retail, banking branch and corporate hiring, US grocery, department retail, hotels, infrastructure, industrial, consulting, defense, dialysis, home health, fitness. Defense-tech Anduril (2,160 on Greenhouse) and semiconductor Micron are real tech-adjacent hirers — and still an order of magnitude below Domino's. OpenAI does not make the top 24 on volume at all.
Named department facets push the same direction when they are populated: Engineering leads the tagged set (~11,800), but Store Hourly Positions (~5,000), Clinical, Behavior Technician, Nursing and Gym Operations all appear in the same facet long tail — company-specific labels for the hourly and care economy that mega-boards actually staff. Department coverage is sparse (many providers never send the field), so the honest "what kind of jobs" answer remains the employer table above, not a department pie chart.
What this is not
A few misreads are easy and wrong:
- Not "tech is dead." NVIDIA, Salesforce, Palo Alto Networks and peers post large boards; they simply do not out-volume franchise and healthcare backfill. Tech hiring is real and smaller by open-req count on public ATS boards.
- Not "Domino's is a better employer." Open reqs measure churn, growth, multi-site staffing and how a company uses its ATS — not prestige, pay or working conditions.
- Not a full labor-market census. LinkedIn-only posts, Indeed-only posts, and internal ATSs are outside this surface. Board counts can double-count brands; open-role counts can hit crawl caps.
- Not a remote-work study. The remote flag is missing on most Workday and Greenhouse volume. We do not report a "remote share" here (see the geography companion for why).
For ATS vendor concentration — Workday's share of postings versus its share of employers — use the Workday volume post. For where those reqs sit on a map, use Bengaluru / global hubs. For how often boards vanish or block crawlers, use the career-page graveyard.
What it means, depending on who you are
If you write about "the job market": lead with units. Company count, posting volume, LinkedIn buzz and BLS payroll are different instruments. On public ATS volume, the market is franchise operations, healthcare systems, grocery and hotels first.
If you are job hunting in tech: the Ashby/Greenhouse lane is real — it is just not where most open reqs live. If you want volume, filter by employer size or by enterprise ATS providers in the job search tool, not only by startup brand names.
If you build hiring intelligence or scrapers: a static list of "top companies" decays; a ranked open_roles_count feed does not. The power-law also means sampling 100 random boards under-weights the employers that actually move headcount. Weight by open roles or you will describe the median startup forever.
If you pick an ATS as a founder: your careers-page host is a size signal. Ashby boards in this crawl average far fewer open roles than Workday or SmartRecruiters enterprise boards — detailed in the Workday companion. The apply URL advertises stage before a candidate reads a single job.
Everything above is re-queryable. Sort companies by open roles, filter by provider, or pull facets in one call — the Jobs dataset is the same source this post used.

Frequently asked questions
Which company has the most open jobs on a public career board?
In Crawlora's mid-July 2026 Jobs crawl, Domino's single SmartRecruiters board lists 24,435 open roles — the largest open_roles_count among active boards we track. CVS Health is second at 17,295 on Workday. These are public ATS career-board totals, not LinkedIn counts or payroll headcount.
Does Domino's really have more open jobs than OpenAI?
By open requisitions on each company's hosted career board, yes: Domino's 24,435 versus OpenAI's Ashby board at 723 — about 34×. That measures posted req volume, not job quality, seniority, or pay. Domino's board is also larger than every Ashby posting combined (18,211 open postings on the Ashby provider facet).
How concentrated is hiring across career boards?
Only 198 active boards report 1,000 or more open roles — about 2% of the 9,678 active boards in Crawlora's registry. Those mega-boards report roughly 431,000 open roles between them. The top ten boards alone report about 92,000.
Is the online job market mostly tech jobs?
Not by open-req volume on public ATS boards. The largest boards are food franchise, healthcare/retail pharmacy, grocery, department retail and hospitality — Domino's, CVS Health, Albertsons, JCPenney, Accor — not startups. Named Engineering roles lead the sparse department facet, but that tagged slice is a thin part of overall postings.
How is this different from the Workday ATS market-share post?
The Workday study asks which applicant-tracking vendor carries the most postings. This post asks which employers post the most open roles. Same Jobs dataset, different unit: provider share versus employer power law.
What does this ranking leave out?
Internal career systems at Amazon, Google, Meta and Apple; jobs posted only on LinkedIn or Indeed; ATS vendors we under-crawl; salary and remote share (sparse or provider-broken fields). Some Workday boards hit a ~2,000 crawl page-cap, so those open counts are floors. Aggregate and structural only.
