Data study · July 27, 2026
A roster-first directory of 93 named researchers and staff across 9 frontier AI labs (OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Mistral, Anthropic, DeepSeek, xAI, Cursor, Moonshot AI, Qwen). Every person here is linked to their lab through a real academic or organizational record, then resolved to X only via a handle they themselves declared — an ORCID researcher-url, a Wikidata claim, or their own GitHub profile field. Never a bio-keyword guess.
93
named researchers, each with a self-asserted X handle.

Roster-first, X-enriched — snapshot July 27, 2026.
93
named researchers/staff across 9 frontier AI labs, each traced to a self-asserted X handle.
38.3%
of 141 public GitHub org members list a self-asserted X handle in their profile — the highest-yield signal.
6.5%
of the 248-person OpenAlex academic roster (OpenAI, DeepMind, Mistral) resolved via ORCID or Wikidata — a documented lower bound, not true X presence.
38
of 87 enriched profiles carry an X verified badge (43.7%).
Four sources, in order: (1) OpenAlex — researchers by co-authorship affiliation at a lab; (2) arXiv — full author lists on a seminal paper, for labs OpenAlex doesn't index (Anthropic, DeepSeek, xAI, Moonshot); (3) Wikidata — people whose employer (P108) is the lab; (4) GitHub — public members of the lab's GitHub org. A person is only listed here if ONE of those roster sources places them at the lab AND they have a self-asserted X handle — their own ORCID researcher-url, their own Wikidata P2002 claim, or their own GitHub profile's twitter_username field. No bio-text matching, no name-similarity guesses. None of these four sources carries a reliable employment date, so as a last step every listing with a live X bio was cross-checked against its assigned lab and dropped on an explicit contradiction — see the FAQ below.
16/248
ORCID/Wikidata resolved of the OpenAlex academic roster (6.5%).
24/75
Wikidata employer-claim people with an X handle (32%).
54/141
GitHub org public members with a self-asserted X handle (38.3%).

No self-asserted X handle surfaced for this lab's roster in this pass — see the FAQ for why.
The same records behind the cards above — plain HTML tables, easy to copy and parseable by search engines and AI answer engines that can't read a card grid.

This is a small, roster-first sample, not a complete employee list. We build a researcher roster from ground-truth academic and organizational records — OpenAlex co-authorship affiliation, arXiv paper author lists (for labs OpenAlex doesn’t index), and Wikidata employer statements — then check whether that specific, named person has declared an X handle themselves, via ORCID, Wikidata P2002, or their own GitHub profile. It skews toward people with an academic publishing history or public GitHub org membership; most working researchers at these labs won’t appear, and self-asserted links massively undercount true X presence (documented lower bounds: 6.5% of the OpenAlex roster, 32% of the Wikidata-employer roster, 38.3% of GitHub org members).
Every listing traces to a real signal. The “source signal” column names exactly which self-asserted registry produced it — never a bio-keyword match, never an inferred affiliation. One known-bad Wikidata mapping (a DeepMind-affiliated academic mis-linked to an unrelated account) surfaced during research and was excluded rather than shipped; see the product-plan doc for the full methodology and why we rejected searching X bios for lab mentions as the discovery method. Live profile stats (avatar, followers, verified, bio) come from Crawlora’s X Users dataset where already indexed, else a live public-profile pull — public fields only, no email or other contact info collected. The roster is open under CC BY 4.0.

Crawlora (2026). AI Researchers X Index. 93 named frontier-lab researchers resolved to a self-asserted X handle. https://crawlora.net/ai-researchers-index.
No. We deliberately rejected that approach — searching X bios for lab names is noisy and low-precision (see docs/ai-org-intelligence-product-plan-2026-06.md). Instead this is roster-first: we build a list of real researchers/staff from ground-truth academic and organizational records (OpenAlex co-authorship, arXiv paper author lists, Wikidata employer statements), then check ONLY whether that specific person has self-asserted an X handle — via their own ORCID researcher-url, their own Wikidata P2002 claim, or their own GitHub profile's twitter_username field. X is used to resolve and enrich, never to discover.
No, and it undercounts substantially on purpose — this is a floor, not a census. 6.5% of the OpenAlex-sampled academic roster and 32% of the Wikidata-employer roster had a self-asserted X handle; GitHub org public members ran higher at 38.3%. Most working researchers never link their X account anywhere machine-readable, so true X presence is far higher than what shows up here. The roster also skews toward people with an academic publishing history or public GitHub org membership — not every employee has either.
Every person on this page carries one or more of exactly three signals, shown in the "source" column: their own ORCID researcher-url pointing at x.com/twitter.com, their own Wikidata P2002 (X username) claim, or their own GitHub profile's twitter_username field discovered via public membership in that lab's GitHub org. None of these are inferred from bio text or a name match — they are all first-party, self-declared links. One known-bad Wikidata mapping surfaced during research (a mismatched handle for a DeepMind-affiliated academic) and was excluded rather than shipped.
None of the four roster sources (OpenAlex, arXiv, Wikidata, GitHub) carries a reliable employment date, so a resolved signal can point at a lab someone has since left — an old co-authored paper, a GitHub org membership nobody revoked, a Wikidata employer claim nobody updated. As a one-time snapshot pass on July 27, 2026, every listing with a live X bio was cross-checked: does the bio's current-tense self-description support the assigned lab, or does it explicitly contradict it (past-tense "previously/ex-/formerly <lab>", or a bio naming a different current employer with zero mention of the assigned lab)? 15 lab-listings failed that check and were removed rather than shipped as a false "current" claim. Listings with no bio available were left as-is (an absence of corroboration, not a contradiction). This is a point-in-time check, not a live feed — bios can go stale again after this pass, the same way the underlying roster signals did.
Qwen (Alibaba's model team) isn't its own OpenAlex institution or Wikidata organization — the parent "Alibaba Group" entity covers thousands of unrelated employees, so using it as the roster source would reproduce the same false-positive problem this whole methodology exists to avoid. We instead roster-routed Qwen through arXiv (60 authors on the Qwen3 Technical Report) and GitHub org membership (QwenLM, 4 public members) — both precise to the model team — and neither surfaced a self-asserted X handle in this pass. That's a true negative, not missing data.
Yes — the full roster (name, lab, X handle, source signal, followers, verified, role, previous affiliations) is published as a CSV under CC BY 4.0 at https://crawlora.net/ai-researchers-index/download. No email addresses or other non-public contact info are collected or published.
Same source as everything else self-declared on this page: the person's own X bio. Where a bio states a current title ("Research Engineer", "CEO & Co-Founder") we surface it near-verbatim in "Role"; where it uses explicit past-tense language ("previously/prev/formerly/ex-") naming a prior employer, we surface that in "Previously at". Unlike the lab-affiliation signal (ORCID, Wikidata, GitHub — all structured records), these two fields are extracted from free-text bio content, so they're held to a stricter bar: ambiguous, terse, or unclear bio text is left blank rather than guessed. A blank cell means the bio didn't clearly state one, not that we don't know.
That earlier study measured how often AI-lab names appear as TEXT inside bios across the X Users dataset — an aggregate keyword count with no named individuals and no employment verification. This page is the opposite approach: named individuals, each verified through a real employment/affiliation signal (OpenAlex, arXiv, Wikidata) and a self-asserted handle, not a bio-text match.
This roster runs on public X profile data — followers, verified status, bio, avatar — served from Crawlora’s X Users dataset and live X profile lookups. Query it directly for your own entity-resolution or people-search pipeline.
