We ran the same 60 keywords through Google, Bing and Brave and compared their page-one results. On July 22, 2026 the three engines agreed on the #1 result for only 24.6% of keywords, and shared just 2 result domains between them. If you track rankings on one engine, you are measuring one of three different internets.

31.6%
of keywords produce three different winners — Google, Bing and Brave each put a different domain at #1. Only 24.6% agree.
2.3
domains are all that Google and Bing share on page one, on average — a page ranking #3 on one can be absent from the other entirely.
58.1%
of the 666 distinct domains we saw appeared on exactly one engine — tracking a single engine hides most of the ranking web.
44.1%
of Google’s page ones contain Reddit, against 1.7% of Bing’s. The engines disagree about what kind of page deserves to rank at all.
For each keyword we take the top 10 organic result domains from each engine and count how many they have in common. Every pair below is measured only over the keywords where both engines returned a usable result set.

Divergence is not uniform. Categories where a handful of authoritative publishers dominate produce more agreement; crowded commercial categories with many near-equivalent vendors produce the least.
The sharpest split is not which vendor wins — it is what kind of page each engine thinks deserves the top 10 at all. Below: the share of each engine's answered SERPs containing the big community and reference platforms.

Cross-engine divergence above is computable from a single day. Turnover is not: it needs at least two samples of the same keyword. The daily panel behind this page began on July 22, 2026, and this section fills in automatically as samples land — a genuine time series rather than a number estimated from one snapshot.
Collecting. One sample of the 60-keyword basket exists so far (July 22, 2026). Turnover figures appear here from the second sample onward, and become meaningful over two to three weeks. We publish the churn series when it exists rather than inferring it from a single snapshot — the same reason the cross-engine numbers above are labelled with the exact keyword count they were computed over.
Want the turnover for your keywords instead of ours, today? SERP monitoring runs the same daily snapshot against any keyword set.
The same figures behind the charts — plain HTML tables, easy to copy and machine-readable for search engines and AI answer engines that can't parse a chart.

Everything on this page is one daily snapshot of page one per engine, diffed against yesterday. That is exactly what a rank tracker does — the difference is the keyword list. These are the endpoints and workflows behind the numbers above.
Free SERP checker →
Check where a domain ranks for any keyword, on any of the three engines, right now.
SERP rank checker API →
Positions, result URLs and snippets as structured JSON — the raw material for this index.
SERP monitoring →
Scheduled daily snapshots and deltas, which is how the volatility series here is built.
SERP tracker API →
Keyword-tracking dashboards on top of stored snapshot history.
Bing Search API →
The engine Google-only tracking misses — and the one feeding Copilot. It answered 100% of our basket.
Brave Search API →
An independent index, not a Bing or Google reseller — which is why it diverges from both.
Comparing tools rather than building? See how Crawlora’s SERP endpoints line up against SerpApi, Serper, Serpstack and Serpdog, or read the narrative version of the June 2026 pass in Google vs Bing vs Brave: do results match?
The basket. 60 evergreen head and mid-tail keywords, spread evenly across 6 categories (SaaS & software, Developer & API, Consumer & retail, Finance & money, Health & wellness, Travel & local). They are deliberately non-newsy — no people, events or breaking entities — so movement reflects ranking changes rather than the news cycle. The list is frozen: a volatility index is only comparable over time if the basket does not change.
The measurement. Once a day we take the page-one organic results for every keyword from Google, Bing and Brave , country US, language en. Each result is reduced to its registrable domain, so www.reddit.com and old.reddit.com both count as reddit.com. Google’s own /search?q=… refinement links are dropped — they are SERP furniture, not organic results.
How each engine was collected.Bing and Brave come from Crawlora’s search endpoints. Google’s column in this snapshot was captured from page one of a real browser session instead, because its API endpoint was returning a challenge page or a partial render on most attempts on the collection date. The panel records the collection method per engine per day, and no statistic ever compares a browser-collected sample against an API-collected one — a change of method would otherwise show up as ranking churn that never happened.
Why overlap is not “out of 10”.Google’s page one now carries 7.9 classic organic links on average — AI Overviews, People-Also-Ask and video blocks take the rest of the space — where Bing and Brave return 9.9 and 10. Dividing shared domains by a flat 10 would score Google as more divergent purely for showing fewer blue links, so the overlap percentage is the shared count over the shorter of the two result sets. The raw shared-domain count is published alongside it in every table.
Limits, stated plainly. Overlap and #1 statistics are computed only over the keywords where every engine in the comparison returned at least 6 usable domains. This is one sample per day at a fixed time, not continuous monitoring, and one locale — results are personalised and geo-varied in ways a single US/en sample cannot capture. Churn is measured at the domain level, so rank shuffles inside page one are invisible to it by design.
The panel behind this page is open under CC BY 4.0: every keyword’s page-one domains, per engine, per day.

Crawlora (2026). SERP Volatility Index 2026. Google, Bing and Brave share 2 of 10 top results and agree on the #1 result for 24.6% of 60 keywords. Snapshot 2026-07-22. https://crawlora.net/serp-volatility-index.
Across 60 evergreen keywords sampled on July 22, 2026, Google and Bing shared an average of just 2.3 page-one result domains (31.3% of the shorter result set), and all three engines shared 2 (26.9%). Only 24.6% of the 57 keywords every engine answered produced the same #1 result on all three, and 31.6% produced three different winners. Brave is much closer to Google (71.3% overlap) than Bing is.
SERP volatility is how much a search engine's results change over time. This index measures it as the share of an engine's page-one result domains that are different from the previous day's sample of the same keyword: two identical result sets score 0%, two completely different ones score 100%. It is measured at the registrable-domain level, so a page moving from #4 to #2 is not counted as churn — only a domain entering or leaving page one is. The daily panel behind this page starts on 2026-07-22; the volatility series fills in as samples accumulate.
Because the engines mostly index different winners. 58.1% of the 666 domains that appeared anywhere in our snapshot appeared on exactly one of the three engines, and only 99 domains showed up across all three. Bing feeds Microsoft Copilot and a meaningful share of ChatGPT's web citations, and Brave runs an independent index — so a Google-only rank tracker cannot see where you stand in either.

Yes. The raw daily observations are committed as open data (CC BY 4.0) and the collection script is public: every keyword's page-one domains, per engine, per day. Bing and Brave come from Crawlora's own search endpoints — the same API anyone can call with a key. Google's column in this snapshot was captured from page one of a real browser session rather than the API, and the panel records that difference per day so no statistic ever compares a browser-collected sample against an API-collected one. Country is US, language en.
