A History of Messages Sent Beyond Earth
LEMMiNO explores humanity's efforts to communicate with life beyond Earth, beginning with the Pioneer 10 plaque and its attempt to show where, when, and who we are.
Pioneer 10's plaque
The video begins with Pioneer 10, its journey past Jupiter, and the plaque intended for a possible extraterrestrial finder.
Designing a universal message
It examines how hydrogen, binary, human figures, spacecraft dimensions, pulsars, and the Solar System were used to convey meaning.
Limits of interstellar communication
The analysis addresses ambiguities, measurement issues, limited preparation time, and the extraordinary odds of a probe being found.
Topics
Pioneer 10
How Pioneer 10 became one of humanity's first spacecraft to carry a message into deep space.
Hydrogen and binary
The use of hydrogen's hyperfine transition as a shared reference for time and length.

and in that time, we've made numerous attempts to communicate with life beyond. Either by attaching greeting cards to probes headed for interstellar space or by targeting our cosmic neighbors with high-powered beams of light. So far, humanity's been left on read, but that could change at any moment. As long as we keep making noise, there's always a chance we'll be heard. An exceedingly slim chance, as we'll see, but a non-zero chance nonetheless. Given the paradigm-shifting potential of contacting beings from another world, it sure would be nice to know what exactly we've been telling them all these years.

Brothers, we have been reunited again..
bruh, they've been pulling some Cicada 3301 shit on all those aliens this whole time
Interrupting an alien's first and likely only exposure to human music so that congress can have their names listed is a level of ego that's frankly astounding
In a few million years there will be an alien version of lemmino analysing all of these messages trying to decipher them
1:05:33 “We are peaceful humans. Please answer.” Sounds like a galactic-scale catfishing attempt
