17,000,315 crawled book records — title, authors, series, genres, format, publisher, ISBN and the full 1-5 star ratings/reviews breakdown — plus 2.7M author profiles discovered as a byproduct of the books crawl. Cleaned, normalized and served over one REST API. No crawl to run, pay on success.

Snapshot 2026年8月20日 — crawled from public Goodreads pages.
17,000,315
book records, discovered from curated Listopia "best of" lists, a search-term sweep, and author bibliography expansion — one row per catalog id, queryable without a live crawl.
71.4%
of the catalog carries no recorded rating at all — the long tail is real; only the rated slice supports rating-based filtering and sorting with any signal.
690K
tagged editions carry the Fictiongenre tag alone — genres are multi-valued, so tag counts run well ahead of title counts.
69.6%
of editions with a known publication year were published in 2010 or later — a catalog that skews modern, not a historical archive.
Top genre tags and formats across the catalog. Both fields are optional and capped to the top values returned by the API — genres are multi-valued (a book can carry several), so tag counts are occurrences, not a share of titles.
Top genre tags (occurrences, top values)
Top formats
Editions with a recorded publication_year, bucketed by era, plus the editions where no year is on record. Computed with exact range queries, not a capped facet.
Ratings on Goodreads accumulate slowly across a catalog this size: under a third of the catalog carries any recorded rating at all. Among the rated slice, the shape is what you'd expect from a review platform — skewed high, with 4-star-and-up editions far outnumbering anything under 3.
| Rating | Editions | Share of catalog |
|---|---|---|
| 4.5–5.0 stars | 967,636 | 5.7% |
| 4.0–4.49 stars | 1,653,274 | 9.7% |
| 3.5–3.99 stars | 1,240,036 | 7.3% |
| 3.0–3.49 stars | 719,989 | 4.2% |
| Under 3.0 stars | 276,233 | 1.6% |
| No rating recorded | 12,143,147 | 71.4% |
A record is only useful if the fields you need are populated. Publication year and page count are each set on roughly half the catalog; ratings coverage is sparser still — a direct consequence of a catalog this broad reaching deep past the bestseller shelf.
Straight from a reviews_desc query — nothing hand-picked.

Several rows here are the same title in different languages — each edition is its own catalog record, so a popularity ranking surfaces them side by side rather than collapsing to one row per book.

A separate index of 2,710,589 author profiles — bio, birth/death dates, website, genres and aggregate rating — built as a byproduct of the books crawl: every credited book contributor, plus a few seed sources that surface an author id directly. Because this index is a byproduct of the books crawl, not an independent author crawl, an author's presence (and how complete their profile is) tracks how much their books have been discovered — a prolific author whose books haven't been crawled yet simply isn't here, and there is no book_count field on the author record itself.
67% of author profiles (1,817,290 of 2,710,589) carry a recorded aggregate rating. The single most-tagged author genre is Fiction, with 24,398 tagged occurrences.
Every query authenticates with an x-api-key header and reads the stored index — no live scraping, billed pay on success. Two dataset ids, each with the same three endpoints:

GET /datasets/goodreads-authors/search — filter, sort, page.GET /datasets/goodreads-authors/items/{id} — one full record by id.GET /datasets/goodreads-authors/facets — top-value counts for any supported field. All six are exposed as MCP tools (datasets_goodreads_books_search, datasets_goodreads_books_item, datasets_goodreads_books_facets, datasets_goodreads_authors_search, datasets_goodreads_authors_item, datasets_goodreads_authors_facets) so an agent can call them directly.

Search the whole catalog by genre, format, language, rating or publication era; pull one book's full ratings breakdown; or look up an author's profile and aggregate rating — through one REST API. Recommendation engines, price/edition comparison, reading apps or research: clean JSON, pay on success.
17,000,315 book records as of the 2026年8月20日 snapshot, one record per catalog id. That count includes every discovered language edition and translation as its own row, not one row per title — a popular book with translations into a dozen languages contributes a dozen records. Books are discovered from curated Listopia "best of" lists, a search-term sweep, and a self-expanding book-to-author crawl; it is not a full catalog of every book on Goodreads.
4,857,168 of the 17,000,315 records (28.6%) carry at least one recorded rating; the rest are catalog entries without rating data yet. That is a real property of a catalog this broad, not a data-quality bug — filter on min_ratings_count if you need the rated slice specifically.
No — goodreads-authors (2,710,589 profiles) is a separate index built as a byproduct of the books crawl: every credited contributor on a discovered book, plus a few seed sources that surface an author id directly. An author who hasn't had any of their books discovered yet simply isn't in the index, and there is no book_count field on the author record. Treat it as a broad discovery surface for authors encountered along the way, not an independent or exhaustive author catalog.
Title, the full contributor list (authors[] and author_ids[], with primary_author/primary_author_id denormalized for filtering), series, genres[], format, page count, publisher, publication date/year, ISBN/ISBN-13, language, and the full rating picture: average rating, ratings count, reviews count, and the 1-through-5-star ratings-count breakdown. Every field is optional — none is guaranteed present on a given record.
Name, birth/death dates, website, genres[], a free-text bio, average rating, ratings count and reviews count, plus provenance fields. As with books, every field is optional, and the public API exposes no exists-style filter for bio or website, so this page does not report a coverage percentage for those two fields specifically.
Because genres is multi-valued: a single book or author can carry several genre tags at once (Fiction, Fantasy and Young Adult on the same title, for example). Genre bucket counts on this page are tag occurrences, not a partition of titles — dividing a genre count by the catalog total would overstate how much of the catalog that genre actually covers.
Yes, both datasets the same way. goodreads-books: search (full-text plus genre, format, language, publisher, author, series, ISBN, rating and page/year-range filters), items/{id} for one full record, and facets for top-value counts. goodreads-authors: the same three shapes (name/genre/rating filters). All six are exposed as MCP tools — datasets_goodreads_books_search, datasets_goodreads_books_item, datasets_goodreads_books_facets, datasets_goodreads_authors_search, datasets_goodreads_authors_item, datasets_goodreads_authors_facets — so an agent can call them directly, and billing is pay-on-success.
This snapshot's figures were measured on 2026年8月20日 directly from the public search API. Every record also carries its own run_id from the crawl that produced it, which you can filter or facet on if you need to isolate a specific crawl run.
