Retail location intelligence · Starbucks · Snapshot October 11, 2026
The Starbucks store directory as a dataset: 40,952 store locations worldwide, each with its name, address, coordinates, ownership type and, where the market publishes them, amenities such as drive-thru and mobile ordering. Filter by country, state, city or amenity, or ask for every store within a radius of a point. Every call reads the stored index; nothing is fetched on request.

One record per store_number, built by tiling the store locator so that dense cities are not cut off at its per-search limit.
Snapshot October 11, 2026. Store counts are of this directory and can differ from Starbucks's reported totals.
40.2%
of the directory is in the United States, and the United States and mainland China together hold 60.1% — 16,446 and 8,161 stores. No other country has more than 2,217.
44.4%
of stores are licensed to another operator rather than run by Starbucks. The split is not uniform: 39.3% of US stores are licensed, against none in mainland China, where every one of the 8,161 stores is company-operated.
46.8%
of US stores have a drive-thru — 7,694 of 16,446. Outside the United States the count is a floor, because not every market publishes its amenities.
15
countries have at least one store offering Mobile Order and Pay, and the United States alone holds 78% of them — 14,362 of the 18,421 stores carrying the code.
Store discovery is global, but amenities are published market by market. Mainland China — the second-largest country here, with 8,161 stores — publishes no amenity codes at all, so a worldwide figure such as "11,063 drive-thru stores" counts only the markets that say so. Compare amenity shares inside one country, where the denominator is real, and treat any cross-country amenity total as a lower bound. Ownership type and location are populated for every store, so those splits are of the whole directory.
Stores per country for the largest fifteen. Each share is of all 40,952 stores, so it is exact; what the table cannot give is the number of countries, because the facet endpoint returns at most 50 of them.

The 50 largest countries account for 40,504 of the 40,952 stores; the remainder sits in countries beyond the facet's 50-row limit. Filtering by an exact country code works for any country, in the top 50 or not.
Every store carries an ownership code, and the four codes partition the whole directory. Licensed stores are the ones inside airports, grocery chains, campuses and hotels, run by another operator under the Starbucks name; in some countries the entire market is licensed or a joint venture.

Location and ownership fields are present on every record. Amenities and phone numbers depend on the market and are absent where Starbucks does not publish them; an absent amenity list means "not published", not "none".

The figure is the number of stores this directory holds, collected by tiling the public store locator; it can differ from the store count Starbucks reports to investors.
16,446 US stores, 40.2% of the directory. CA has the most with 3,051, followed by TX with 1,479. 9,976 of the US stores are company-operated and 6,470 are licensed.
In the United States, 7,694 of 16,446 stores (46.8%) carry the drive-thru code. Worldwide the directory shows 11,063, but that is a floor: amenities are published per market, and mainland China, with 8,161 stores, publishes none. Filter with `amenity=DT` and a `country` to get a figure with a real denominator.
Company-operated stores (code CO) are run by Starbucks; licensed stores (code LS) are run by another business under the brand, typically inside an airport, supermarket, hotel or campus. Worldwide 52.6% of stores are company-operated and 44.4% are licensed, with small joint-venture and franchise groups making up the rest. Every record carries the code in `ownership_type_code`.
Yes. The `nearby` endpoint takes `lat`, `lon` and `radius_m` (up to 50,000 metres) and returns the stores inside the circle. Every store has coordinates, so nearby search covers the whole directory, and `search` accepts the same three parameters alongside the country, state, city and amenity filters.
Phone numbers and amenities, where Starbucks publishes them for the market; opening hours are not part of the stored record. Each record does carry the store's time zone, its pick-up options and whether mobile ordering is available, and the `hrs24` amenity code marks stores open around the clock in the markets that publish amenities.
